Christmas Musical Program / Musique de Noel
Voice of Saltimbanco from Cirque du Soleil, Award Winning Musician & Teacher
The Canadian Club of the Yamaska Valley invites you to enter into the spirit of Christmas by both singing and listening to many of the favourite songs and carols of the season, on Monday December 1st at 2:00 p. m. at the Auberge West Brome. Our special guest to help us do that will be Francine Poitras, who was the very first soloist in the Cirque du Soleil.
Originally from New Brunswick, Francine studied piano and dramatic arts at the University of Moncton, followed by a degree in classical singing at Laval University. This was followed by studies in the United States where she mastered jazz, musical comedy and gospel. She then studied the relationship between the ear and the voice in Paris. In 1992 she created the first singing character of the Cirque du Soleil, with the composer Rene Dupéré, featuring the “invented language”, which since has remained the mark of this celebrated Quebec circus.
Since coming to the Eastern Townships in 2003, she has taught music and has performed with l’Orchestre de Musique de Films de Sherbooke, for le Musée de Beau Arts de Sherbrooke, as well as other local venus, including Bromont’s St. John’s Cultural Centre. In February 2013, the Canadian Government recognized her accompoishments by awarding her q Queen Elizabeth II diamond jubilee medal. She presently resides in Granby where she has created a warm and intimate atmosphere in her “Maison qui Chante”. Where she teaches piano and voice to children and people of all ages.
