Laurent Busseau, Historian & Journalist.
"The History of the Abenakis around Lake Memphremagog"
Laurent Busseau is originally from France. He came to Canada about 17 years ago to study history at l’Université de Montréal and l’UQAM. A world traveler, and passionate historian, he uses the term “ historien sans frontière”, often citing the African proverb “If you don’t know where you’re going, look where you’ve come from.” His aim is to familiarize people with their local history so that they have a broader perspective on their own region. A resident of Dunham, Laurent Busseau has been a consultant for several local historical societies and has given numerous conferences on our local history. He has also taught courses at the University of Sherbrooke and Bishops University. His presentation on Monday March 3rd “ The History of the Abenaki Around Lake Memphremagog” addresses the history of our region prior to European contact, tracing the region’s human occupation back 12,000 years.
